Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa is the national museum of Aotearoa New Zealand, located on Wellington’s waterfront. Its collections cover Māori and Pacific cultures, New Zealand history, art, natural history, and the country’s relationship with its environment. Exhibitions include Māori taonga, contemporary art, natural science displays, and stories about the people and places that have shaped New Zealand. The museum’s six-floor building incorporates a contemporary marae, Rongomaraeroa, and is supported by 152 base isolators designed to protect the structure and its collections during earthquakes. Te Papa’s collection contains more than two million objects, ranging from artworks and cultural treasures to specimens and historical records.
